Safety Guidelines and Paperwork Regulations #
The label is the law. Read and follow all chemical labels and SDS sheets. Find the PPE section on a label.
On-site Safety Inspections #
Before starting any job, you must perform an inspection. This inspection consists of noting down how you will treat the structure and identify potential safety hazards.
Examples: trip hazards, gardens, fruit trees, stinging insects present, utility lines, irrigation lines, animals, kids, toys, food, drinkable water, standing water, etc. Identify and report potential hazards to the trainer.
Common Safety Issues to Note #
Trenching and drilling into utility lines and irrigation systems.
Applications #
Most products Arrow applies require long pants, shoes, socks, long sleeves, chemical-resistant gloves, and protective eyewear. Wear proper PPE.
Confined Spaces #
When working in confined spaces, you should have an N95 or stricter mask or respirator. Respirators should be stored in sealable bags to protect the filters.
Attic Safety #
Always exercise 3-point contact, with 3 of 4 limbs always touching, in attics and have adequate lighting. Do not step off planking unless you are an approved technician to do so. Be safe in the attic!
Ladder Safety #
Make sure all ladders are checked out and secured on trucks when traveling. Non-self-supporting ladders, which must lean against a wall or other support, are to be positioned at such an angle that the horizontal distance from the top support to the foot of the ladder is about 1/4 the working length of the ladder. The top of the ladder should extend approximately 2 feet or rungs above the roof or eave line for safety and stability. Jobs with extensive ladder work/heights or larger ladders may need to have two Arrow Reps present.
Injuries #
Report immediately and in writing to the supervisor. Must be reported.
Chemical Spills #
Spills, defined as any product that is spilled in an area that is not labeled or intended for treatment, need to be reported to your supervisor immediately. Check surroundings, get PPE on, stop the source of the spill, get a spill kit, and apply as needed to absorb the spill. Call the supervisor. Putting the spilled material in a bucket or garbage bag to bring back to the office for proper disposal is common. Clean up the spill as directed after that.
Observing Unsafe Activities #
If you observe unsafe activities at Arrow, encourage that employee to utilize the safe and proper practice because you care about their safety. There is an open policy for reporting any unsafe activities involving any employees or environment. There is no “whistle blowing” when it comes to safety.=
