Employee Vehicle Safety Guidelines #

New employees must complete a driver safety booklet before driving a vehicle at Arrow.

Operational Capacity #

During working hours, employees must be physically and mentally capable of operating a vehicle safely per company standards and law standards.

Substance Use #

No drugs or alcohol are to be in your system. You drive a chemical truck. Do not do it.

Vehicle Monitoring #

Arrow vehicles have GPS tracking capabilities and video monitoring. Do not speed, do not leave your scheduled area, and do not follow closely behind other vehicles. Tampering or damaging GPS/camera devices will result in the driver being charged a minimum of $200 and possible termination.

Driver’s License #

You must have a valid driver’s license at all times while employed at Arrow Pest Control. Your driver’s license must be with you in the vehicle anytime you are driving.

Vehicle Use #

No personal vehicle use is permitted unless approved by management in writing.

Keys #

Keep them labeled. Do not take them with you if you park the vehicle at an office location.

Vehicles at Home #

If you miss work and have a vehicle parked at your house, Arrow may need that vehicle and keys for that day(s) to utilize it. Never keep personal belongings in a company vehicle.

Accidents #

Contact your supervisor or management immediately if you can do so. Safety is a priority. A statement of the accident and pictures are needed. Do not leave the scene of the accident or allow anyone else to leave the scene until your manager has been notified and you have been given guidance. Check yourself and equipment. Document with pictures. Get the phone number and name of any other party involved so we can check on them.

At-Fault Accidents #

If an employee gets in an at-fault accident due to negligence, which includes having illegal drugs or alcohol in their system, then they will be responsible, at a minimum, for the deductible Arrow pays. This is the policy whether the employee is terminated as a result of the at-fault accident. Fault is determined by considering the police report, traffic laws, lawsuits, and Arrow vehicle policies.

Dents #

If you notice a dent or damage to a vehicle, you need to report it and make a statement for management as soon as possible.

Personal Use #

Using an Arrow vehicle for personal use requires approval from Arrow in writing. Arrow may compensate according to law standards for your personal vehicle use. You are responsible for informing your insurance provider if you use your vehicle for personal use. Whatever your insurance requirements are, you need to relay those to Arrow so we can be sure we understand the liability and limits. If you are driving on company time, safe driving practices are required.

Vehicle Privilege #

No Arrow employee is guaranteed the right to take a vehicle home. It is a privilege. Arrow reserves the right to charge the employee for this privilege. This may vary at Arrow’s discretion.

Backing When Parking #

It is safer to back in to a spot when parking. Back in whenever possible.

Safety Cones #

Every vehicle should have a safety cone. If you lose your safety cone, you can be charged $20 for a new one. The safety cone should be put out whenever the vehicle is parked. The cone should be put out on the side of the vehicle that is most prone to traffic. The cone should be visible and give other drivers enough time to react. When picking up the safety cone, you should inspect your surroundings for potential hazards when leaving the site. Put out the safety cone while training.

Vehicle Maintenance #

Schedule normal maintenance at times that will minimize interference with regular work production with customers.

Oil Changes #

Oil should be changed once per month minimum in the vehicle and if you have a gas engine that powers your pump.

Rig Filter Checks #

Check WEEKLY. Check and clean the pump filter while wearing PPE.

Daily Truck Check #

A daily walkaround of your vehicle should occur. Include: inspecting tires for air/tread, inspecting equipment for leaks, inspecting cleanliness of outside and inside, checking fluids, checking that the gas card, insurance, and registration are in the vehicle, checking that all safety equipment is on your truck, inspecting to be sure that no materials are missing and that you have everything you need to safely complete your work for the day.

Idling #

Do not leave the truck on idle or with the engine running.

Switching Trucks #

Update in Slack and in writing to supervisor/scheduler.

If you switch vehicles, inform your supervisor. Label your old vehicle on the driver side as “vacant” and note any problems with it so management can fix it efficiently.

Stopping Distance #

Read. This may save your life.

When traveling, put 2.5 – 3 seconds of stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

When stopping, you should stop so you can see the tires of the car in front of you.

Handheld Devices #

No handheld usage of phones, GPS, or eating meals is allowed while driving. Arrow will supply a phone/GPS holder.

Prohibited Vehicle Objects #

Absolutely no smoking in vehicles. Techs that smoke in vehicles are subject to a $150 cleaning fee. No guns, non-employees, alcohol, or illegal drugs are ever allowed in Arrow vehicles.

Truck Checks #

A truck check form should be filled out approximately once per week and filed in our office. Any missing or damaged items should be addressed to management as soon as possible.
